What are the disadvantages of undergoing surgical treatment for obesity?

Laparoscopy, Bariatric surgery and liposuction form the most popular surgical treatments for obesity. Though they promise great results, there are many risks and complications involved in these surgeries including gastrointestinal track leak, bowel obstruction, chronic symptoms of nausea, vomiting & abdominal pain, protein, vitamin and mineral deficiency, hair loss, internal bleeding, nerve problems, infection, balloon part leakage, slippage or erosion of the silicone band etc.

These factors can cause infections, delays in healing, the formation of fat clots or blood clots, fluid loss because of the removal of large amount of fat, friction burns, and drug reactions making the outcome of a surgery entirely dependent on the skills of the surgeon.

Why is Lipolysis a better option for slimming?

Lipolysis utilizes the energy of ultrasound beams to destroy fat cells in the targeted area. This non-surgical procedure involves minimum risk with fast recovery time. It is practically painless and there are no bruises, scars or swelling.

Are there any side effects/ risk for Lipolysis?

No, there are no pronounced side effects for this procedure. During the procedure the patients may feel slight heat in the area which does not require any medication or anaesthesia.

Is the result immediately visible after the Lipolysis procedure?
In the first week, a slight reduction in fat can be seen in the area. During the second and third weeks, the solid components of the disrupted fat cells are cleared by the immune system. The final result can be seen after 28 days.
How does laser beams remove hair?
When highly controlled flashes of laser beams are absorbed by the hair follicles, the growth potential of the follicle is destroyed. Since the hair follicles are usually in different growth cycles, several sessions may be required to assure the destruction of all hair follicles.
Are there any possible side affects for Laser Treatment?

Side affects are rare. There might be some slight reddening or swelling at the treatment area for a few hours. Also, the skin may become lighter or darker following the treatment. This will generally return to normal within a few days. Limiting sun exposure before and after the treatment will minimize the risk of complications.

What can be done to increase the bone area for dental implants?

Bone graft material can be surgically inserted into the upper jaw for supporting the dental implants. This procedure is called a Sinus augmentation. Another method known as Onlay Grafting is done by placing a piece of bone taken from hip, tibia, chin etc. and grafting it into the area. The new piece of bone will slowly join to the underlying region and when healed and mature, an implant can be placed.

How is the bone required for grafting harvested?

Bone can be harvested from the patient’s hip, tibia, chin and posterior regions of the lower jaw. There are other sources of bone as well specially prepared to make them safe for use in humans. New bone can take anything from 3 to 12 months before it is ready to receive dental implants.

Guided tissue regeneration - Using this technique slow moving bone cells are given time to fill a space by placing a barrier material between them and the fast moving cells of the soft tissues lining the mouth. The barrier material commonly used is resorbable, which will disappear naturally within a few months.

Does Bone Grafting affect the duration of treatment?

Bone grafting requires high degree of skill from the surgeon and is often more complex to perform than the placement of the implant itself. Naturally, this will increase the period required for treatment.

What happens to the fat after Lipolysis?

When the fat cell membrane is destroyed, triglycerides are released into the interstitial fluid between cells. They are then transported through the vascular(veins) and lymphatic systems to the liver and processed by known metabolic ways.
